“Interplay: An Arts Exchange with Studio Y Creations”
January 16 – March 16, 2017
In-Definite Arts Optimist Gallery | 8038 Fairmount Drive SE, Calgary AB
This January In-Definite Arts is excited to present “Interplay”, a collaborative visual art project developed jointly with Studio Y Creations (SYC). The exhibition features sculptures designed by the SYC creative team, as well as artwork created in all media in response by twenty three IDAS and Artistic Expressions artists with disabilities.
As a form of inclusive art-making, the “Interplay” project inspired creative collaborations between disabled and non-disabled artists by supporting a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and aesthetics. The resulting exhibition helps to redefine what ‘inclusive art’ is or should be, by emphasizing collaboration, exchange, communication and relationships, and by valuing the creative talent of diverse collaborators. In the words of one of the IDAS artists: “It was interesting to see another artist’s work… I liked the dog to work on!” (Daniel Desaulniers, creator of “Peter the Bulldog” featured below).
Generous thanks are extended to Dave Nolan, President of Studio Y Creations, for helping to make this exhibition possible.
Artists featured in this show include: Alison Cherer, Amanda Varty, Andre Paradis, Bonnie Wark, Candace Ronneberg, Cindy Miller, Christine Millson, Daniel Desaulniers, Gay Bowman, Gwyn Howell, Jennifer Luykx, Jonathan Stel, Kathy Austin, Matthew Carberry, Maggie Vovan, Michelle Carscadden, Paul Erickson, Roma Shafer, Scott Marshall, Sherry Klarholm, Sydney Speers, Todd Derhak & Wendy Hladik, as well as artwork created by Dave Reilander and the Artists of Studio Y Creations.
