In Memoriam: Darlene Murphy
November 28, 1955 – January 22, 2017
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Darlene Murphy. Darlene first began working at In-Definite Arts in 1980 and has served as the Executive Director since 2003. Throughout this time she affected many changes in both the agency and in the field of disability services. During her tenure, In-Definite Arts became an internationally respected organization best known in Calgary for its diverse and innovative studio and exhibition programs. This work is not finished, and In-Definite Arts will continue to honour Darlene’s legacy by pursuing the goal about which she was most passionate – advancing the value and diversity of artistic expression for people with disabilities.
Outside of In-Definite Arts, Darlene was also a tireless volunteer and advocate in the greater disability services community. She was the Secretary and Communication Director for the Calgary Service Provider Council. She was a Registered Recreation Therapist and had been volunteering for over twenty years with blind sports at all levels from local to Paralympics. To read a full statement on Darlene’s passing and celebration of her life, please find her obituary here.
A Celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at Winston Heights Community Centre (520 27 Avenue NE, Calgary) on Friday, January 27, 2017. Gathering of family and friends at 1:30 pm and celebration at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the In-Definite Arts Society through Canada Helps.
