The Board of Directors of the In-Definite Arts Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Jung-Suk (JS) Ryu as the organization’s new Executive Director, effective June 19, 2017.
JS is currently Director, External and Community Relations at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In this role, he oversees all public sector relations and manages public sector funding that accounts for more than $20M in revenue annually. Previously, he held senior roles in public relations including Director, Public Affairs with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind; Senior Consultant, Alberta Medical Association; and Principal Speechwriter to the Ambassador of Japan.
“We were very fortunate that all the candidates we interviewed had remarkable abilities and passion. For sure, any one of them would have been able to do a good job for In-Definite Arts,” said Jeff de Boer, Chair of the In-Definite Arts Society Board of Directors. “The final choice came down to the one we felt could do more than a good job. Jung-Suk (JS) Ryu is a very special person with extraordinary potential who not only intuitively understands our culture, I believe he possesses a vision and the energy to take IDAS to a bigger place that will be an exciting, inclusive and fun adventure for everyone! I am extremely confident and excited about our decision and I am looking forward to the day when I can personally introduce him to the IDAS family.”
“I am so excited to be a part of this remarkable organization,” said JS. “For over 40 years, In-Definite Arts has provided a platform for artists with barriers to express themselves, share their stories, and inspire others with their work.
“With an amazing team of staff and volunteers at In-Definite Arts, I know that we can touch the lives of even more Calgarians, Albertans, and Canadians through the power of the arts.”
