Art Works! is a year-round, after school visual arts program that runs in trimesters (each course is 10 weeks long), and supports 48 children weekly (up to 24 per class) during two, two-hour long studio sessions. Dedicated to providing high quality arts instruction for children and teens, Art Works! employs professional artists as instructors, and offers projects in new media each season to allow for continuous skill development.
Through a combination of demo-based instruction and hands on learning, students receive training in a variety of two and three-dimensional art activities, including: clay/potter’s wheel, drawing, painting, glass, fibre-art and mixed media.
As a result of Art Works! programming, children and youth are given the opportunity, both within the studio and before and after class, to have a snack, practice a skill, and connect with other children or youth from around the city who are interested in spending their after school time in creative and positive ways.
